Most of us are familiar with at least some of these verses. Sermons traditionally jump in at verse 6. Surely there are few more powerfully prophetic texts in all the Bible on the uniqueness, power and majesty of our wonderful Lord and Savior. They touch all of our hearts - especially at this Christmas season.
But those words don't just fall out of the air. God gives them to Isaiah. Isaiah gives them to a people. And those people live in a specific historic context. And the context makes the promise of the Messiah even more meaningful in our day.
